Visual Representation of Statistical Information †Free Samples

Question: Discuss about the Visual Representation of Statistical Information. Answer: Introduction In this modern World, most people are suffering from mental health issues. These are caused due to a variety of reasons like family issues, work stress, among others. A mental health expert must diagnose the individuals who show the following signs or symptoms. These symptoms include feeling worried or anxious all the time, feeling depressed and unhappy, presence of emotional outbursts, problems related to sleep, changes in appetite and eventually weight, very quiet, reserved and withdrawn from others, uses drugs and consumes alcohol, feeling worthless and guilty, changes in the behavioral pattern and feelings[1]. Various psychological, biological and social factors are responsible for determining the mental health of an adult person[2]. Older adults lose their ability to carry out day-to-day activities, suffer from chronic pain and other physical problems, which generally makes them feeling vulnerable. Moreover, experiences like bereavement, poor socioeconomic condition as a result of retirement, disabilities can cause the elderly to go into a state of isolation, loneliness, psychological distress, among others[3]. This report describes the mental health problems associated with elderly people. It also provides evidences about growing mental health illnesses in adults, program planning, preparing logic model, evaluation plan and grant plan. Development of evidence base There are many evidences regarding the growing issue of mental health in adults. The Worlds population is ageing at an alarming rate. Problems in mental health are the most important causes of worldwide disease burden and disability. About 5 of 10 leading disability causes are mental health problems. It is relevant in all socioeconomic conditions, age groups, social strata and gender. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 15-30% of workers experience mental health problems[4]. The European Mental Health Agenda of the European Union (EU) have found that approximately 20% of working adults population experience some kind of mental health problems at a particular time. In the United State of America (USA), about 40 million people experience some form of mental disorder and about 4-5 million people have significant problems regarding mental health[5]. Depression is one of the mental health disorders associated with the working adults in USA. Depression is the leading cause of disability in the United States and is found in individuals aged between 15-44 years. Economic burdens associated with disorders estimate to 83.1 billion dollars. These include medical costs, mortality costs related to suicides and workplace associated costs. Statistical survey carried out by National institute of mental health revealed around 26.2% of adults above 18 years of age in the United States experience symptoms associated with mental health disorders. A mental health survey carried out in 2017 revealed that among 3000 employees, 60% had mental health problems because of workplace and work in general. One of the mental health survey in 2017 by the mental health indicates that about 3000 employees in the community for charity business found 60% of them had mental health issues due to work and work place[6]. Various approaches can be to gather evidence about extent of mental health illness. These include surveys, questionnaires, government websites, research articles describing the growth and causes of mental problems among the adults and records of mental health facilities. One such questionnaire is the patient health questionnaire that is meant for individuals and it asks various questions regarding mental health problem symptoms and causes[7]. The evidence gathered regarding health problems among adults were then used to plan a program in order to emphasize the importance of an awareness and prevention program to the stakeholder and other government and non-government organizations. The evidence gathered can be used to improve and enhance knowledge about mental health, about the symptoms and irrational behaviors and remove any stigma associated with mental health problems in society and workplace. The stigmas associated with mental illnesses include stereotyping, discrimination and prejudice[8]. In the future, more evidence is needed to carry out a campaign about mental health problems. Moreover, different types of evidence are also needed in order to make the stakeholders understand the gravity of the situation related to increased cases of mental health among the adults. Extent of mental health problems is generally obtained from Government websites, which are usually statistics based, however, research based evidences are also needed in order to determine the most important causes giving rise to mental health problems. Moreover, evidences should also include the conditions in workplace, schools and colleges that results in development of mental illnesses. Mental illness can also be associated with family surroundings[9]. So, this type of research will also ensure support from stakeholders and government organizations in carrying out mental health campaigns. While preparing the pitch, I found that all evidences were put forth regarding the extent of mental illnesses among adults. All the information was evidence based, convincing and appropriate for the topic in hand. It had information from reputed organizations like WHO, National institute of mental health and updates from European union. It also provided the different methods to obtain information about the extent of mental illness. Thus, I expected the feedback to be much better. After comparing the pitch with presentations from other colleagues, I found it necessary to introduce evidence based research in the form of research articles that describe the various causes of mental health problems among adults in the workplace and at home. The feedback showed that audience attention was captured for some amount of time, had some eye contact and vocal range. Some stage presence was also observed. Future presentations can be improved by following the seven points used to create an entrepreneurial pitch. The features of a good presentation is that it should be brief, clear, specific to the audience, benefits highlighted, identification of problems and giving potential solutions, call for immediate action and continuation of conversation by inviting listeners. The summary of the pitch should be brief and to the point. It should be carried out in less than 1 minute time. This short period of time should be enough to engage the audience and create a strong impression and connection. The pitch should be clear meaning that the message should be coherent and easy to understand. The pitch should be specific for the audience. It should provide prospects as well as potential partners for service. The listeners should be provided with the benefits. The presentation should identify potential problems and give necessary solutions that will help to attract the attention of the listeners. An immediate call for action should be made, where the stakeholders and partners should be empowered about the necessary prospects. Moreover, an invitation can also be provided to the listeners in order to engage in a verbal communication that would help to understand the point of view of the stakeholders and partners[10]. If I were to present the pitch in the future, I would like to change the visual aids and make them more relevant to the audience. Apart from preparation of the pitch and its delivery, visual aids are also an essential part of presentations. The visual aids should be in line with the speech. Without any presence of match between speech and visual aids will hamper garnering the attention of the audience. Visual aids should include a variety of items like slides, handouts, videos, pictures, posters, among others. All these visual aids should reinforce the message[11]. Moreover, visual aids are necessary when the information can be put forth in a visual manner only. The visual aids that will be effective in putting the message through to the audience should involve the use of colors, since bright colors can attract the audience as it will highlight the necessary information. The visual aids should be legible to the audience. Use of clip arts can also enhance the effectiveness of visual a ids. Clip arts and different shapes can be used in case of generating flow charts, logic models, diagrams, among others[12]. A program logic model provides a systematic flowchart about the campaign and its procedures[13]. It addresses the problem at hand, provides necessary goals or aims to achieve the objectives put forth in the campaign. It provides the necessary interventions, implementation plans, the necessary partners or stakeholders, the evaluation criteria and the probable outcomes. Evaluation Plan The campaign or the program is organized in order to create awareness among individuals about the risk factors associated with mental health problems, the necessary prevention measures and identifying individuals who are unaware of their deteriorating mental condition. It was necessary to determine the potential stakeholders who will help to implement the program. The purpose of the evaluation is to identify the potential determinants related to mental illness among individuals. It will also help to determine the knowledge gap and the various stigmas associated with mental illnesses in the society. The audience for the evaluation includes the public like office employees, elderly people, mental health organizations, doctors, nurses, among others. Process: Counseling, Yoga and meditation centers, health programs How many counseling sessions were carried out? How many yoga and meditation sessions were carried out? How much engaging were the health programs? How much satisfied were the participants? Impacts How many participants showed increased knowledge and awareness about mental illness? Did the participants come up about their mental conditions? Did the participants ask for interventional strategies to overcome their problems? How many participants admitted themselves to be checked for mental illness to mental health clinics? Outcomes How have mental illness rates changed after the program? Evaluation design and data sources An evaluation design helps in critically analyzing a program[14]. It involves collecting information about the activities of the program and analyzing the program performance. The evaluation design can include questionnaires that would carry the necessary evaluation questions regarding the success of the program. Various data sources can be utilized to determine whether the strategies implemented in the program are logical and evidence based or not. These include surveys, published literatures, government annual reports, case studies, interviews, scenario modeling, among others. The necessary resources for carrying out this program involve the participation of doctors, nurses, funders like stakeholders, government organizations and non-government organizations or NGOs. The doctors and nurses will provide the knowledge and information as well as assessment and care, while the stakeholders will provide funding[16]. Governance involves the manner and the efficiency with which the program was carried out. This is generally carried out by the government, state organizations and other stakeholders. It is necessary to report the information about the evaluation program to the necessary stakeholders, government and non-government organizations and asking their views about added informations or interventions regarding the strategies used. It also helps to report the success of the program to a wider audience. Grant Chart The grant chart was designed keeping in mind the time required for planning and design, stakeholders meetings, funder discussions, evaluation. Evaluation timeframe includes time required for data collection, for data entry and cleaning, analysis of the evaluation and recording the data, planning for the next campaign. Grant chart planning Nov 2017 Dec 2017 Jan 2018 Feb 2018 Mar 2018 Apr 2018 May 2018 Jun 2018 Jul 2018 Aug 2018 Sep 2018 Oct 2018 Nov 2018 Planning and Design Stakeholder meeting Funder discussion Campaign result Campaign 1 Campaign 2 Campaign 3 Evaluation Data collection Survey 1 Survey 2 Survey 3 Data entry Survey 1 Survey 2 Survey 3 Analysis of evaluation Recording of evaluation Next campaign planning Conclusion This report describes the growing mental illness cases in the society throughout the world. It generates a program in order to bring about necessary intervention strategies that would enable the public to understand about the necessary causes, effects and the long term outcomes of such mental illnesses. The program planning involves generation of a logic model and evaluation plans that would enable the funding from necessary funding organizations and support from stakeholders. Thus, it can be concluded that mental health is highly important and necessary programs are needed to prevent such cases in the future. Reference List Moore TV.
